Children’s drawing class, story time and picnic in the woods with Emma van Zeller - 16th April
Together with children’s illustrator and author Emma van Zeller, we are excited to be hosting a special woodland experience for Children aged between 5-10 years.
Arrive at the majestic Blackbury Camp hill fort during peak bluebell season at 10 am. The children will have the chance to forage for interesting items to draw, try their hand at nature rubbings, and listen to Emma read nature-themed books. Emma will also lead a drawing class while parents can relax with coffee, tea, and pastries, taking in the serene woodland surroundings.
The morning will wrap up with an informal exhibition of the children's work, followed by a Children’s picnic provided by Glebe House at 11:30 am.
About Emma:
Emma van Zeller is a writer, illustrator and art teacher. She is currently creating illustrations for Charles Dowding. Her first Picture book; The Spitting Toads, was created for The Newt in Somerset, and features the magical awakening of the sculptures in the garden. Emma previously worked in Editorial Illustration, and was a regular contributor to Country Life magazine. She has a PGCE in Teaching Art & Design. Before moving to the West Country, Emma was Head of Art at Pilgrims’ School, Winchester. She continues to teach workshops, collaborating with unusual venues to bring unique art experiences to aspiring young artists.
Emma’s areas of interest are nature, specifically regenerative farming and biodiversity, our interrelationship with the planet, art and design, and living consciously for a sustainable and upbeat future. Emma works to bring these ideas to life through her books, as well as in educational settings.
Emma is a big believer in the power of the imagination, and giving children the tools to explore their own creativity. Her illustrations are rich in whimsical detail, giving non-readers the chance to decipher the narrative themselves.
She lives in South Somerset with husband and two small boys.
Important Notes:
In case of bad weather, the event will be held at Glebe House.
There are no toilets at the woodland site, but Glebe House is just a 5-minute drive away should nature call.
